How to replace the Gas Lift / Gas Spring for your chair
Replacing the gas lift is straightforward and can be done in a few simple steps:
Step 1 – Tools needed for removing the Gas Spring
Gather a rubber mallet, a flathead or Phillips screwdriver, and (if necessary) WD-40 or lubricant. This will help loosen any seized parts and safely remove the gas lift without damage. Ensure a stable work surface.
Step 2 – Removing the footrest from the Gas Lift
Turn the chair over so that the underside is visible. Gently and evenly tap the underside of the footrest or gas spring with the rubber mallet. Then slowly and controlledly pull the footrest off the gas lift. Repeat if necessary until the footrest disengages.
Step 3 – Removing the Gas Spring from the Seat
Hold the chair upside down so that the underside is easily accessible. Gently tap the rubber mallet around the gas spring at the underside of the seat. Then slowly and controlledly pull the old gas lift out of the seat. Repeat if necessary until the gas spring is completely removed.
Step 4 – Cleaning and Checking Parts
Clean the footrest, seat, and mounting points with water or soapy water to remove dust, dirt, and grease. Dry everything thoroughly before continuing. This will ensure a better fit for the new gas spring and prevent creaking or looseness.
Step 5 – Installing the New Gas Spring and Assembling the Chair
Carefully insert the new gas spring into the footrest and ensure it is firmly secured. Then place the seat straight onto the gas spring from above and press firmly to ensure everything is firmly in place. Test the chair for stability and check that the height adjustment works smoothly again.
